First International Mindfulness Conference, Rome, 8 – 12th May 2013

This conference aims to bring together international figures prominent in the field of mindfulness, research, different intervention models and their applications to various settings, ranging from clinical and prisons settings to those specific to the general public.

Life Happens: Taking psychological concepts and mindfulness to the public as a means of managing life is to be presented as a preconference full day workshop. This model of intervention differs from the more traditional ones in that although it uses MBSR as its core mindfulness component, it includes and interweaves well-established and sound psychological concepts that allow for individuals to extend their knowledge and skills beyond the more traditional mindfulness boundaries. It places people within a psychological and social context, develops awareness of themselves and increases their skills, resilience and resourceful in order to manage all aspects of life, from physical illness, psychological distress and relationships to the workplace. Its aim is to make these concepts as accessible to a public audience as possible in order to prevent exclusion or niche audiences and to allow for the inclusion of people from all areas of life by adapting the language and approach.
